Success

What does success mean to you?

This is one of the questions that started to go through my mind after I left my corporate job.

Although I had reached a certain level in my company, I wasn’t entirely happy. Deep down, I knew I lacked balance between home and work, and I wasn’t passionate about the nature of the career I was in.

I have always been self-motivated, so one of the meanings of success for me has been doing things on my own terms in a flexible way.

Also, I have never been driven or motivated by material possessions and status.

During the course of my journey, I discovered that, deep down, success to me is more about being happy, alive, joyful, and balanced; being the best person I can possibly be; having positive relationships with the people around me; and seeing the world for what it is.

Keep a journal.

Write down any thoughts that come to you on the topic of defining success.

Start thinking about and writing down how you would like to spend twenty-four hours each day living your ideal life if finances were not an issue.

The answers will come but not always when you expect them.

Meditation will help you recognise and listen to your inner voice.

The answers will slowly come to you.

Find Your Truth

Success means many things to different people.

As you silence the mind and ego, the right definition of success will start to resonate with your being.

For me, success meant having a better balance between my family and the work I do.

I wanted to do something that fitted into the hours the children were at school so that I could be fully engaged when they were at home.

Time

Give yourself time to find the answers.

The answers don’t always come immediately but at a later point.

Before you start moving in that direction, give yourself time to discover yourself, who you are, what you believe in, what your values are and what you want from life.

After I left my job, the easiest option would have been to jump into another corporate position.

However, now I see this would have been completely the wrong path for me.

I needed time (and lots of it) to figure out the next steps in my life.

Be You

Success based upon your definition will come when you become the person you were meant to be.

Each and every one of us is born with a unique set of talents and traits that are part of our true nature.

Once we discover what these unique qualities are and start walking in that direction, success will happen.
